Capital Region Celebrates National EMS Week

JEFFERSON CITY, MO – In honor of National Emergency Medical Services week, Capital Region Medical Center was a proud host of an EMS luncheon. The luncheon, held Wednesday, May 22, was an opportunity for local EMS professionals to come together, not only to socialize and celebrate, but also to learn.

During the lunch, Jeffrey Coughenour, MD, FACS, gave a continuing education presentation on trauma. Dr. Coughenour is an Associate Professor of Surgery and Emergency Medicine and Trauma Medical Director at MU Health Care. Those in attendance were given the opportunity to earn credits toward their continued medical education (CME). Through continued education, healthcare professionals not only maintain their accreditations, but gain valuable information, focus on best practices and learn of the latest studies and innovations to better serve our patients.

This year the theme for National Emergency Medical Services Week is “Beyond the Call”, reflecting that EMS professionals often work above and beyond the call of duty to serve those in our communities. CRMC president, Gaspare Calvaruso comments, “We are extremely grateful for the EMS and fire department professionals who work tirelessly to help our patients and their families. They are on the front line every day, saving lives and safeguarding the wellness of our community. We thank them for their service, now during EMS Week, and always.”
