Capital Region Therapist Earns Certification

JEFFERSON CITY, MO - People value the use of their hands; therefore, any loss of function through injury or disease can devastate lives. The Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) credential offers assurance to the public that the therapist treating them has achieved the highest recognition of competency in the profession of upper limb rehabilitation. Crista Parker, OTR/L, CHT, of Capital Region Medical Center has earned the distinguished CHT designation after completing all required examinations and clinical studies.

A Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) is an occupational therapist or physical therapist who has a minimum of three years of clinical experience, including 4,000 hours or more in direct practice in hand therapy. In addition, the Certified Hand Therapist has successfully passed a comprehensive test of advanced clinical skills and theory in upper quarter rehabilitation. Because of changes in the profession, every CHT is required to demonstrate continued professional development and competency by recertifying every five years. Parker is one of approximately 6,200 individuals worldwide to hold this marked designation.

Crista joins fellow occupational therapist who is also a certified hand therapist, Justin Lewis, OTR/L, CHT in caring for patients in Outpatient Occupational Therapy at the Sam B. Cook Healthplex.
