Sam B. Cook Healthplex Supports the Food Bank's Buddy Pack Program

JEFFERSON CITY, MO - The Capital Region Sam B. Cook Healthplex is hosting their 6th Annual LES MILLS Relaunch to help raise donations to support The Food Bank's Buddy Pack Program.

The event, titled “Sweatin’ to Make a Difference” combines the quarterly LesMills Relaunch with a two-week food drive for the Buddy Pack program.

Those wishing to participate can drop off their donations at the Fitness Center of Sam B. Cook Healthplex. Donations may include small boxes of cereal, peanut butter, peanut butter crackers, canned fruits and vegetables, granola bars, pop top pasta meals, dried fruits and nuts and/or cash donations. Last year members, participants and staff raised $423, 635 pounds of food and 363 jars of peanut butter. Striving to make a bigger impact this year, they have set their 2018 goals at 650 pounds of food, 400 jars of peanut butter and $425. The food drive will begin July 16 and run until July 30. The second portion of the event will be the LES MILLS Relaunch. Participants in the relaunch are able to experience the latest LES MILLS releases. Group fitness instructors will lead partakers through LES MILLS BODYSTEP™, BODYPUMP™ and BODYFLOW™ on Saturday, July 28 and LES MILLS GRIT PLYO™, BODYATTACK™ and CXWORX™ on Sunday, July 29. A $5 donation per participant will be accepted the day of the event. 100% of proceeds will benefit the Buddy Pack Program. About The Food Bank’s Buddy Pack Program

One in five children in our service area faces hunger on a regular basis, with more than half qualifying for free or reduced-price meals at school. For many of them, breakfast and lunch at school offer the only source of reliable nutrition, and they are at risk of hunger over the weekend. To alleviate the risk, The Food Bank partners with elementary schools to provide Buddy Packs to school children. Buddy Packs are backpacks filled with kid-friendly, nutritious food that students take home over the weekend or holiday periods to supplement their meals when there is not enough for them to eat at home. The Food Bank distributes 7,500 Buddy Packs each week during the school year at 150 schools in the 32-county service area.
