Capital Region Announces 2017 Volunteer of the Year
Esther Kempker

JEFFERSON CITY, MO – Capital Region Medical Center Partners began the Volunteer of the Year Award program to recognize volunteers who have demonstrated the qualities associated with outstanding volunteer services. The award was presented at the Annual Partners General Meeting and Awards Luncheon, held at Canterbury Hill Winery on May 9, 2017.

Nominations were made by Capital Region employees and fellow volunteers, and nominations were based off of certain criteria necessary to be an exceptional volunteer. These criteria included demonstrating a caring and positive attitude towards patients, visitors, Capital Region employees and Partners; upholding good interpersonal skills; working well with hospital staff and volunteers; maintaining a professional appearance and good attendance record, as well as any additional contributions made above and beyond their regular duties.

The 2017 Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to Esther Kempker, who has been a volunteer at Capital Region for 11 years. Esther is a familiar face for patients, visitors and employees at Capital Region as she volunteers many hours in the Blue Boutique Gift Shop. She even volunteers her time to Capital Region when she’s not at the hospital by helping make Buddy Bears, which are given to our youngest visitors to help comfort them during their time in the hospital.

Also recognized for their outstanding service are the following volunteers who were nominated: Sue Alberti, Diane Boyer, Rosemary Bushko, Melissa Calvaruso, Erika Gerth, Larry Hall, Sharon Johnson, Sara Krull and Roy Watson.

In 2016, the total number of hours volunteered to Capital Region was 44,330 hours.
