Dr. Scott Griswold Announced as Award Recipient for Excellence in Connecting Health to Community for the 7th Annual MOCAN Healthcare Professional Award

ELDON, MO- 9/25/18 - Capital Region Physicians is proud to announce Dr. Scott Griswold M.D. has been recognized as an awardee for the 7th Annual MOCAN Healthcare Professional Award: Excellence in Connecting Health to Community for his championed efforts in healthcare and youth well-being in Eldon, Mo. 

Healthcare professionals involved in the Missouri Council for Activity and Nutrition (MOCAN) seek to recognize a healthcare professional who has demonstrated leadership in promoting an active living, healthy eating or other obesity prevention initiative in his/her community. By recognizing an outstanding healthcare professional who has enhanced patient care by impacting social, community and environmental factors related to healthy lifestyles, MOCAN members home to support healthcare professionals participating in active roles connecting health to the community. 

Dr. Scott Griswold, an MU school of Medicine graduate, is often referred to as “Doc” by beloved community members of Miller County. He cares for a large and diverse patient population – newborns to geriatric – for Capital Region Physicians. Dr. Griswold has also been involved in youth health and wellbeing and youth sports for 20 years. His contributions to the development of the Eldon Athletic Club has provided funds for a variety of sport programs in K-6th youth. On Fridays, you’ll often find Dr. Griswold on the sidelines of the local football games, caring for young athletes’ health and medical needs. He served on the Board for Healthy Schools Healthy Communities grant for Eldon, a program that has been instrumental in developing a complete streets policy, Bike/Ped plan, and transforming a local park into the “Healthy Hub of Eldon” by expanding playground equipment and the construction of a walking trail.  Whether local families encounter Dr. Griswold during a medical appointment, a high school football game, or training with his son for the next half marathon, community members will be “greeted with a genuine smile, sincere interest in the person’s wellbeing, and feeling of a true ‘hometown’ doc that loves and cares for his patients, family and community” – one of his patients describes.

The MOCAN membership is honored to recognize Dr. Scott Griswold for his exceptional performance as a healthcare professional and community health advocate. Not only will his efforts continue to have a local impact, Dr. Griswold's leadership will be recognized among health professionals from across the state. Dr. Griswold will receive the award and share his experience with the membership during the October 18th MOCAN meeting.
