Lunch and Learn: "Medical" Marijuana: The Unintended Consequences

This presentation, sponsored by the Council for Drug Free Youth, will incorporate stories and outcomes from states that have legalized marijuana. The group will discuss addiction and how it relates to social issues, self-medication, coping skills, stress, depression and the marijuana-opioid connection. The importance of prevention measures as well as education of youth, parents and the community regarding the unintended consequences and legal issues will also be discussed.

Dr. Joy Sweeney has spent many years advocating for youth education and crusading against addiction. She presents information to youth, parents, businesses and health care providers, and advocates in the legislature at both the state and federal level. Her passion is to help all youth reach their highest potential, free of the pain of addiction and strives to accomplish this task daily, through her efforts.
