Capital Region RN Gains Diabetes Intensivist Certificate

JEFFERSON CITY, MO - Betty Berendzen, RN has participated in and passed Diabetes Intensive Training through the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. The course is accredited by the Joint Accreditation™ Interprofessional Continuing Education. 

The content of the course, designed for Primary Care Physicians, Family Medicine Physicians, Internal Medicine Physicians, pharmacists, dietitians, nurse practitioners, and APRN's, covered a multitude of complex topics. Content included DM pathophysiology, interventions, insulin, comprehensive DM evaluation, hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, care of the fasting patient, billing and coding, hypertension/nephropathy, metabolic syndrome/nutrition/obesity, hyperlipidemia, behavioral modification, diabetes education, gestational diabetes, intensive insulin therapy and referrals. 

Berendzen is a part of Capital Region Medical Center - Corporate and Community Health where she helps to coordinate community educational opportunities, hands-on training courses, and vital health screenings for groups and individuals. She is currently a master facilitator of the Diabetes and Chronic Diseases Self-Management Programs. Through community education efforts, Berendzen, along with the rest of the Corporate and Community Health team, strives to improve the health and wellness of the communities they serve.
