Capital Region Receives National Recognition for its Support of Perioperative Nursing Certification

JEFFERSON CITY, MO – Capital Region Medical Center is pleased to announce it has recently earned the CNOR® Strong designation from the Competency & Credentialing Institute (CCI). The CNOR® Strong designation is given to facilities having at least 50% of its eligible OR nursing staff CNOR certified, and provides programs that reward and recognize its certified nurses. The OR nursing staff at CRMC have exceeded this requirement with a current certification rate of 69% for eligible nurses and an anticipated increase to 100% in the next three months.

The CNOR® certification program is for perioperative nurses interested in improving and validating their knowledge and skills and providing the highest quality care to their patients. This certification recognizes a nurse’s commitment to professional development and is an objective, measurable way of acknowledging the achievement of specialty knowledge beyond basic nursing preparation and licensure.

Research shows that nurses who earn the CNOR® credential have greater confidence in their practice. Thus, a strong team of certified nurses who have mastered the standards of perioperative practice provides even more empowerment, further advancing the culture of professionalism and promoting improved patient outcomes.

Patient safety and positive surgical outcomes are of the utmost importance at Capital Region, and supporting nurses as they exceed expectations to achieve their perioperative nursing certification shows the commitment to our core values and dedication to be Better. Every day.

Operating Room Supervisor Wendy Schulte, RN says of the award, “This is a great accomplishment and something we are very proud of. We have the best of the best at our facility and we take the extra steps in making sure we are the best in our field by becoming certified and maintaining that certification.”
